Chinese Fusion Wedding In Colorado

From Lindsey of Bello & Blue Events:

After serendipitously meeting in New York, and living in Chicago, Winnie & Jaryd loved to escape that big city life and travel to the Colorado Rockies for romantic winter ski trips. Once they were engaged, they knew a mountain destination wedding in beautiful Vail, CO was the perfect place for them to say “I Do”.

With the challenges of planning their dream Colorado destination wedding from afar, Winnie & Jaryd hired a local Event Planner, Bello & Blue Events to design the day and take them through every step of the planning and creative process.

One of the first gifts Jaryd gave Winnie was a gorgeous Cartier bracelet with two interlocking rings attached to a delicate gold chain. Inspired by this sentimental accessory, and the significance of rings in general, Bello & Blue used this circle/ring motif through the design and carried this shape and detail through the ceremony arch, the signage, the hanging floral hoops and acrylic orbs (to simulate Chinese lanterns) in the tent, even the menus were designed to be circular and fit perfectly on the gold and glass charger plates.

This crazy-in-love couple shared a very special connection with their family and friends and it was so lovely to witness all of the love and support in the room. Guests traveled from Chicago, New York, and China to enjoy the Rocky Mountains and all this beautiful setting had to offer.

After being transported in luxury coaches to the historic Camp Hale, all guests were welcomed with a glass of sparkling Rose before enjoying two wedding ceremonies – one western, and one traditional Chinese tea ceremony. To detail the flow of the ceremonies, and events, guests were provided with programs designed to look (and function!) like Chinese fans, and ladies were handed ivory parasols to shield the mountain sun while they enjoyed the outdoors.

This detail-rich wedding featured many lovely personal touches, but our personal favorites were the authentic Chinese keepsakes Winnie’s family brought over from China including tiny rice wine cups for each guest to toast with the Father of the Bride speech, and gorgeous blue and white teacups for each guest which were artfully incorporated into an escort display for guests to find their seating assignment. In Chinese culture, red envelopes are gifts presented at social and family gatherings such as weddings or holidays. The red color of the envelope symbolizes good luck and is said to ward off evil spirits. In this dreamy “Love is Brewing, Take a Sip + Take A Seat ” escort display, white shelves displayed teacups for each guest, and inside was a red “envelope” with a custom tea blend and closed with a gold wax seal with guests’ names and seating assignments.

With a mix of table shapes and sizes beneath the tent, just outside, near the bar, lovely lounge vignettes were set up for guests to enjoy cozy conversation with red velvet settees and fur details and throw to keep warm as the evening continued.

The show-stopping floral was a focal point in this beautiful mountain setting featuring high textured greenery and an ombre effect of whites, blush pinks, peaches, and bold red blooms. Incorporated in the tablescapes were vintage candlesticks from Jaryd’s grandmother’s collection, as well as Chinoiserie vases.

The bride wore Zuhair Murad (purchased at Kleinfeld Bridal) and changed into a traditional custom red Mandarin dress, and the most fashionable groom wore a black tux for the ceremony, Mandarin suit for Chinese tea ceremony before changing into his reception look, a dapper white dinner jacket. With the groomsmen in classic black tuxes, the Bridesmaids got ready in charming cabins in silk Chinese robes (a gift from the bride) and changed into formal champagne dresses accessorized with black leather jackets for later in the evening as the temperatures dropped in the higher altitude.

Design aside, food and beverage was an important part of the wedding for this duo as well, and a custom tailored menu was designed for them to highlight their favorite spices flavors and fare from their travels around the world, as well as Four Seasons of drinks – each with their own special garnish, edible flowers, and custom craft recipe.

Serenaded by strings for the ceremony and cocktail hour, music transitioned to live saxophonist for dinner and a DJ for dancing. One of the highlights of the evening was the father/daughter dance. Winnie & her father danced to the song “Yellow” performed by Katherine Ho from the Crazy Rich Asians Soundtrack and it was the most touching moment for everyone to witness – there wasn’t a dry eye in the tent!

As the dance party concluded, guests were treated to the couples favorite types of street tacos as a late night snack for the ride back to the hotel. It was the most magical summer evening and unforgettable wedding! Congrats Winnie & Jaryd!
